The unprecedented implementation of the Harmonized Sales Tax in British Columbia, on July 1, 2010, was introduced with very little supportive evidence and proof of a successful application in any of Canada's provinces and territories. Yes, other provinces had it but no evidence was brought forth by the B.C. Liberal Government prior to that date. Moreover, the other province had different implementation systems in place. The citizens of this province were instructed that it would be revenue neutral. That advertisement is a metaphor that it commonly used by politicians to train people to believe in the decision or in the product that is being presented. Like a salesman trying to sell a customer a product that has never been tested or provened.
Hence, this CitizensAgainstHST blog, will continue to present a new approach to educating its reader. Where, when, and if possible, photographs of failed business in North Vancouver - Seymour will be made available in the future.
A new voting poll survey has begain also. Store merchants can vote to express their views. Question No. 1 is as follows : Are you in favour of the Harmonized Sales Tax in North Vancouver ? Question No. 2 is as follows: Are you in favour of a Recall of the M.L.A. in the North Vancouver area ?
Volunteer canvassers are welcome to join this anti-HST group.

Cedar Grove Restaurant (Restaurant is permanently closed)
The Cedar Grove was a 160 seat neighbourhood casual kitchen serving pizza, pasta, appetizers and entrees. This business was only about 3 years old..
Due to the additional mezzanine level on the second floor, the total square footage is greater than 4500 square feet. Consequently the cost of rental is over $15,000.00 monthly, if not more. (Not $1,500 per month which would be awesome). As most commercial lease has experienced, the 12% Harmonized Sales Tax on the $15,000.00 per month minimum is a very large amount. This is a tragic occurrence to happen to a new, potential business that was employing many local residents in the Lynn Valley community.
In terms of fairness, one should not place the entire failure on the shoulders of the restaurant management because other nearby businesses such as the karate training business closed in the fall and the baby and mom meeting place closed also. Other merchants are concerned and are worried or planning to quit also. For example, other restaurants, offices, clothing stores, and travel agencies.
Many shopping malls are so empty. How long can they survive or remain in business - 6 months perhaps? We wish them good luck.
The following store is 1 out of 11 businesses in the same shopping centre located on 120th Street, Surrey, B.C. that have closed due to the Harmonized Sales Tax forcing tenants to avoid paying any more high cost rental charges.

B.C. Funeral Services Industry hit with HST But Optical Lens Industry is Exempt :
The Harmonized Sales Tax discriminates against various industries in British Columbia. Just after the Federal Conservative compensated Chinese immigrants who were charged with the "Head Tax" and who were repaid with a settlement, the B.C. Liberal Government then moved to implement the H.S.T. on the future burial of the surviving members who live in this province. There is no respect coming from this existing government apparently. It is so hypocritical. The added cost of 7% onto funeral services on a $15,000.00 invoice is $1050.00 more on top of the $750.00 for the 5%. which totals $1800.00 for a burial. That plus the provincial probate tax fee and the inheritance tax amount. So I asked Kevin Falcon to address this issue. But he thinks that the HST creates jobs in the interior of B.C. is important over the issue of the funeral cost to remaining family members of the decease.
Inaugural Report for Citizens Against HST. Purpose is to allow honest views to be presented and where any errors and omissions are allowed for correction, and finally make apologies where and when justified.
ReplyDeletePlease tell me of any bad experience caused by the HST, such as business closures, no payment for employment or work done because of bankrupcy, or foreclosures due to income loss or insufficient income to meet personal or business obligations

ReplyDeleteIf you see any worthwhile news that is true and is appropriate to mention about a problem with the H.S.T, February is Speak Out Month.
Approximately 8 years ago or more, the Hudson Bay Company of Canada became the acquisition of an American Retail Investor. It was purchased and controlled by an investment company from outside of Canada. After the Canada 2010 Olympics, the Bay's subsidiary assets under the Zellers trade name was sold to another larger American Retail Chain, Target. In these instances, the B.C. Liberal Government and the Federal Conservative Government shows little or no interest in preserving ownership of these two historical companies in the hands of the Canadian People. Furthermore, the same careless attitude of these Governments was exemplified during the sale of the B.C. Railway Company. In addition to the sale of these value assets, the ownership control of the once famous McMillan, Bloedel, and Powell River Company was transfer to eastern Canada. Many of B.C. investment were privatized and others sold.
ReplyDeleteConsequently, in the next 10 to 20 years, the result is that more British Columbian citizens will have less job security than previous decades; if ever any of the large owners decide to sell out, move, or replace existing jobs by automation or foreign workers in other countries, more British Columbian will by less financially independant. The fact that part-time employment is now the common job status is indicative of our weakening ability to pay off our debt.
A community survey has begun in the District of North vancouver. It is created by the Citizens Against HST. Look for it to voice your thoughts about the HST and the RECALL Initiative plan.
ReplyDeleteHarmonized Sales Tax is a consumer tax.
ReplyDeleteIt reduces our ability to purchase extra necessary goods and services. It reduces our ability to defend ourself as low income earners. It moves us closer to personal bankruptcy. Therefore, we should all oppose the BC Liberal goverment plan to use a panel of paid and wealth professional economist and ministers from other provinces to get us to accept the HST by indoctrination.
Cash Flow Analysis:
ReplyDeleteIf one million Canadians or 25% of the population of B.C. continue to vacation in other countries and they each spend $2000.00 Cdn$ aboard, then a total of $2,000,000,000.00 or two billion dollars leave Canada annually and reduces our chances our self- suffiency. We will be in debt as Canadians for a long, long time (100 years perhaps).
Yes, Businesses Create Jobs, But not HST:
ReplyDeleteBecause the bank interest rate is prime and is very low, and some mortgages are less than 3.0% to 4%, companies will borrow money to expanded their business. Many resource companies sell shares to raise capital to expand their business. Thus the Harmonized Sales Tax rate of 12% for business is not the primary reason for job creation. The next reason for job creation is the capital cost allowance rate of 5% up to 100% allows business to claim the depreciation of equipment and also real property to be a deductible expense against income.
Again the H.S.T. is not the job creator. Many politicians use the metaphor that the Harmonized Sales Tax creates jobs. I claim that statement to be misleading and ask them to show proof that a $100.00 of H.S.T. rebate is the only reason for paying an employee his or her $100.00 on income.
Where is our Patriotism?
ReplyDeleteMany cross border shoppers are ignoring Canadian Retailers in Canada. What if all Canadian Retailer closed forever because of bankruptcy? Probably, we would have no retailer. I urge all Canadians to support Canadian businesses in order to build our self-sufficiency. We need to encourage real estate investors to invest at home because we need jobs to stay in Canada for our children's future.
IntraWest Moves To Colorado:
ReplyDeleteWe, the citizens of the province of B.C., are the receivers of bad news again as IntraWest management operation moves to Colorado in 2011 while Fortress Investment Group leaves the City of Vancouver with financial issues relating to the 2010 Olympic Village.
The City of Vancouver under the Vision Party thinks the City should spend more money on a post Olympic celebration in order to generate more tax dollars. Wow that is unbelieveable because it owes so much money to the loaners who backed the municipal governments blunder in the Olympic Village headache. It like digging a bigger and bigger sink-hole.
ReplyDeleteThe Olympic 2010 Winter Games attracted millions of people to Vancouver and it publicized Canada as a wonderful country. But Canada was already famous for its uniqueness and still would attract tourist regardless of the games. Hence, The question arises: Did Canada honestly needed to run a huge deficit in order to be attractive and show its features? Not really because the visitors come every year anyhow. May be we wanted to win most of the gold metal?
